Farmers Market Coop of East Liberty Update

Update for Saturday, May 17th

Spring items continue to roll in.  We expect to have many local items including asparagus, spring lettuces, ramps, and rhubarb.

We just received a large shipment of fresh pressed California olive oil including several organic varieties.

Please come out to the market and support your local farmers.

Special items for this week:

EXTRA - LEAN STEAK BURGER PATTIES sold in frozen stack of 8... If you need them for next Memorial Day weekend, then this Saturday is when to get them...they will sell out...

**To plan ahead for next weekend, May 24th, MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND, we are now taking orders for GRASS - FED BEEF...offered as any fresh cut you like or cut/wrapped/frozen cuts u need for the freezer for this Spring & Summer. This is THE LAST offering until late please spread the word to people who are looking for local, USDA inspected GRASS - FED BEEF

**Now taking orders for boneless prime rib roasts or steaks for next week's holiday weekend...any size cut to order **please keep KENNEDY KIDS in mind for good wishes for safety and success as they begin their 4-H show season with their cattle, hog, and lamb livestock projects...they have put a great amount of time, care, and hard work into the new 4-H season.

Greenawalt Farm
I spoke to Brian this morning as he was driving around Somerset County visiting the Amish farms. Local items inlcude lettuce, asparagus, rhubarb, ramps and fresh herbs.  Brian also will have vegetable and herb transplants for the garden. He still has some locally grown fall items including butternut squash, potatoes, onions and dried shelling beans.  Also, fresh maple candy and syrup.   He will also have some shipped in fruits and vegetables. 
Greenawalt's always have fresh local eggs and many types of Amish canned items such as jellies and jams. They also have some cured meat items from Lancaster County.
Kistaco Farm- Will have....
Idared & Red Delicious apples
Homegrown Lettuce
Vegetable plants
Herb plants
Flower plants
Hanging baskets
Bread from Wood Street Bread Co.
Zang's Greenhouse...Rick have fresh local asparagus, morrell mushrooms, ramps, lettuce, micros, rhubarb and PA grown mushrooms.  Shipped in ietms include Vidalia sweet onions, beets, radishes, swiss chard, carrots, brocolli, zucchini, kale, potatoes, tomatoes, and peppers.  Southern Blueberries are in.
Rick will also have some flowers and vegetable transplants.
California Connection-  This week we received 4 new varieties of fresh pressed California olive oils.  They are all pungent and spicy .
We received a shipment of dried blueberries last week.  These are great for baking, on cereal, or just snacking.   This Saturday we will have the following at the market:

Apricots (organic) 
Bing and Rainier Cherries
White Figs
Raw almonds
Raw walnuts (organic)
Pistachios (organic)
Kew Park Coffee Bar-  We just received a shipment of fresh roasted coffee from the farm in Jamaica.  At the juice bar we have valencias from California.
Wheel and Wedge Cheese-   We have some new cheeses just shipped in.  Stop by and try some.  
Pastamore' barrel-aged vinegars-  These are being brought to us by long time market customer Sylvia Lynch.  Offerings inlcude basic balsamic vinegar, but also other flavored vinegars. Free tastes, of course.  Stop by and talk to Sylvia and try these vinegars. Flavors include:

- Sweet elderberry juice combined with our white balsamic vinegar creates a subtly sweet yet slightly tart flavor.

- Blackberry Balsamic  Pure balsamic vinegar is blended with blackberries to create a thick, rich and full-bodied vinegar.

- Dark Sweet Cherry Balsamic Vinegar  Combined with hand-picked Dark Sweet Cherries create the perfect flavor as a salad dressing for spinach or fresh greens.

- Citrus Balsamic Vinegar has been blended with sweet oranges, tangerines, and a splash of lime to create this inspirational and versatile vinegar.

The Greek Gourmet- will have homemade spinach and meat pies at the market each week- in addition to 20+ flavors of hummus.  Stop by and talk to Jack at the booth.

BANDY Woodworks All items are made in their shop using local reclaimed and salvaged wood and non-toxic finishes.  They just got in a fresh bactch of beautiful cutting boards.

The Farmers' Market Cooperative of East Liberty is located at 344 North Sheridan Ave., adjacent to the Home Depot parking lot.  The market operates year round- and is open from 5 AM until 12 noon every Saturday of the year.
