Farmers Market Coop of East Liberty Update

Update for Saturday August 18th

Hello everyone.  The local growing season is progressing and new items are showing up each week.  Please see the update below for several new items. One of those items are "shelly" beans.  And our friend Virgninia Phillips wrote an article about them that appears in th PG today. Thanks to Virgnina for mentioning the market and the fact that Greenawalt's will have these beans at the market this Saturday.

The Update

Greenawalt Farm

I spoke with Brian and he will have a few varieties of shelly beans as mentioned above.  Also they will have the first round of fall squash- several varieties will be available. Other items should include sweet corn, zucchini, yellow squash, pickle cucumbers, radishes, green onions, lettuce, swiss chard, green beans and lima beans, swiss chard and peppers.  Fruit wise, black berries, mellons, peaches and apples.  Check out their fresh cut herbs such as chives and mint.  In addition they will have locally grown eggs and their normal selection of Amish made products.

Special items (and notes) for this week include: 

Note#1) A big thanks for your patience with the rabbits...we just learned today that the 2 children who raise and prepare them for you are out of town exhibiting their cattle until next week, AUG 25 th when the meat will be ready for your pick up.

Note#2) LAMB this week so please order ASAP.. these are jake and tay' s show lambs who are hand fed a high variety mix of vegetative feed and hand exercised daily.

Note#3) PORK this week is again the kids' show hogs and of the highest quality on the market.

Note#4) Thanks to everyone for their good wishes of support throughout our past show season...We hope you know the high quality of local meat we provide is a hard- working and emotional experience for the Kennedy Family...We will be showcasing some winning moments in photos for you at the Saturday stand....along with bringing you more local summer produce...

Kistaco Farm... Will have a variety of fruits and vegetables grown on the farm, including:

Kale Collards
Green Beans
Green Peppers
Hot Peppers
Paula Red Apples
Rambo Apples
Sweet Corn

Wood Street Bread Company bread- and much more
Zang's Greenhouse...Locally grown items this week include peppers of all sorts (green, red, yellow and purple), green beans and wax beans, eggplant, hot peppers, leeks, fresh garlic, cucumbers, pickles, sweet onions, zucchini, beets, micro greens, green onions, potatoes, lettuce, shallots. Sweet corn from McElhaney farm.  In the fruit department- watermellons (sevral varieties) and Chambersburg peaches. Cut flowers.  Rick always has a few surprises.

BANDY Woodworks

...Is a local business that makes children's toys, custom furniture, and other great items for the home (cutting boards, etc).  They make them out of local reclaimed and salvaged wood and use non-toxic finishes.  Their booth is on the right when you walk in the front door, directly across from Greenawalt's.  Preview some of the items carried at the market by New this week is a wine rack designed to hold up to 12 bottles of wine.

The Greek Gourmet- will have homemade spinach and meat pies to the market each week- in addition to 20+ flavors of hummus.  Stop by and talk to Jack at the booth.

The Farmers' Market Cooperative of East Liberty is located at 344 North Sheridan Ave., adjacent to the Home Depot parking lot.  The market operates year round- and is open from 5 AM until 12 noon every Saturday of the year.
